Top 5 Things to Do in Breckenridge This Winter

Breckenridge is one of the most popular spots to visit in Colorado, especially during the winter. Even if you aren't a skier/snowboarder, there is plenty to do here, and is one of my favorite mountain towns to explore because of the wide variety of things to do. Here's a list of activities and places to grab a bite to eat while you're in town. If you're in need of some Breckenridge suggestions, you've come to the right place!

Breckenridge To-Do List:

Hike Cucumber Gulch Trail.

My husband and I stumbled upon this trail on a drive through the Breckenridge mountains. It is a narrow, flat, out-and-back trail up in the mountains near Lift 9 at the ski resort. This is the perfect trail to explore if you're not into winter sports but want to get outside. It's a flat trail, but the snow can be slippery so wear appropriate shoes that have some grib.

Go skiing or snowboarding.

Breck is actually where I first learned how to ski. It is touristy and crowded on the weekends, especially during the holidays, however, it was a great place to learn. There are plenty of lifts and runs where you can escape the crowds, and is one of the most popular ski resorts, making it a must on your Colorado bucket list. Despite the crowds, it's a great place to ski and enjoy the Colorado experience.

Walk around Main Street.

One thing I love the most about Breckenridge is their central town. Downtown Breck is packed full of shopping, cafes, and restaurants. You can easily spend a few hours strolling around town looking for souvenirs and grabbing a bite to eat or some brews. I've compiled a list later in this blog post of some of our favorite local restaurants and breweries.

Visit Frisco and Lake Dillon.

Just a short drive from Breckenridge is Frisco and Lake Dillon. Downtown Frisco also has a bunch of shops and restaurants you can explore, but my favorite part of the area is Lake Dillon. Sapphire Point Overlook is a must stop. There's a 0.6-mile trail here and the views of the mountains are incredible from up here. You can also map to "Lake Dillon" which will take you to some parking lots down below near the lake (where the photos were taken below). It's a fun place to go walk around in the snow!

Another fun activity to do in Frisco near Breckenridge is snow tubing. I've gone a couple of times and it is a great family-friendly adventure! Just make reservations ahead of time here. Make sure to wear waterproof clothing, similar attire as you would skiing.

Drive to Blue Lakes Trail.

This drive is absolutely beautiful but can be a little treacherous in the winter. Make sure to take a 4 wheel drive vehicle. You take the back roads to Blue Lakes Trail, and then drive up to the dam. There are several trails up here, and the views are amazing. This drive is closed during some months during the winter season, but the drive getting there is still worth it. Exploring the back roads in Breckenridge is always something we enjoy.
